All about the Tarawera Falls & Maori Cultural Workshop.
  • Hosts welcome, karakia (Prayer) and safety introduction
  • Once at the Lake you will walk to hear about the tragic love korero (Story) of Mount Putauaki and Mount Tarawera infront of you
  • Learn basic Rongoa (Native plants) and Maori usage and health benefits
  • Explore the safe lake with kayaks (Optional). Swim, dip your feet and enjoy the lake

Flax weaving workshop:
– Learn about the NZ native plant (flax) and it’s usage within Maori culture, flax baskets, traditional Maori clothing etc.
– Learn simple weaving techniques by experienced weavers
Experience a Mirimiri workshop: (Maori massage)
– Feel the energy release tension. (additional cost for larger groups)
Entertainment workshop:
– Poi demonstrations (Ladies performance) with a ball on the end of rope as the ladies roll their wrists and move with elegance
For larger group bookings
Kapa haka experience:
– Learn to do the haka (male war dance)
– Learn simple moves with taiaha (warrior weapon/stick)
– See a group performance
Lunch provided:
– Seafood chowder with Fry Bread (Maori scone)
– Crab meat / prawns / mussels
